Story on the back:

One summer day, while exploring the Peace River hills, I had a close encounter with a bull moose. He came charging out of the Quaking Aspen forest and crossed my path about three feet from where I had just stepped, leaving me quaking in my hiking boots with my heart pounding at the sight of this massive Canadian creature as he continued crashing through the bush toward the river.
I recently saw a video of a moose in Quebec galloping through belly-deep snow with such power, rhythm and speed, I smiled a wide-eyed “Wow!” and wished I were a fairy who could grant him his wings. I imagined him as our magnificent Pegasus of the North – rising above the snow, strong and free, and flying over the evergreen tree tops.
After searching online for photos of moose running and various images of the mythical Pegasus, I was able to design and carve this image in a piece of artist’s linoleum to make this print. Thank you to Mary Parslow from Dawson Creek, B.C. for coming to teach the Peace River Art Club this fun art form that allows our creations to soar with our imaginations.
Moose can be found in Canadian forests from the eastern tip of Newfoundland and Labrador to the border of Alaska. It is estimated that there are between 500,000 and one million moose in Canada. Big bulls weigh up to 600 kg (1,323 lbs.). Maybe I should have made the wings bigger!
