Story on the back:

Ah…the art and ritual of coffee!
Sharing good food and good drink with good friends is a heartwarming Canadian Christmas tradition. And for many of us, there’s something about the taste of a really good cup of coffee that enhances life’s celebrations and conversations.
At DonaBona.ca we like to promote Canadian artists of all kinds. This latte art was created by a Canadian Barista Champion named Josh Hockin during a workshop at Java Domain in Peace River, AB.
Come visit us at www.donabona.ca for the recipe for Painted Cookies and be an artist yourself this Christmas! (Enter “A Latte Like Christmas” in the search field.)

Blend: 3/4 cup butter, 1 cup sugar

Add: 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla

Blend in: 2.5 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt

Chill dough at least one hour.

Mix one egg yolk with  1/4 teaspoon of water. Divide this mixture into small cups and add different colours of food colouring to each. If the paint gets too thick, add a few drops of water.

Sprinkle board with flour and roll out dough 1/8-1/4″ thick. Cut desired shapes.* Use a different paint brush for each colour to decorate the cookies BEFORE BAKING. Be sure to wash the paint brushes before the paint dries.

Bake cookies at 375°F. on ungreased cookie sheet for about 8-10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the cookies.

*A doughnut cutter can be used to make a Christmas wreath to paint holly leaves and red berries on. You can also create butterflies by cutting a long strip for the body and a circle cut in half for the wings (put the rounded sides of the half circles toward the body and the straight edges on the outsides.)
