Description

Story on the back:

My daughter, Jessie, loves owls, so when I was taking a linocut printmaking class with Dawson Creek artist, Mary Parslow, I used some yellow transfer paper to draw this little one on my 4”x 6” piece of lino and used the carving tools to create the printing plate. Mary showed us how to do rainbow inking with red, yellow and blue ink blended and applied with a brayer/roller.
When I peeled the paper off the lino plate, I thought the wee bird looked like a cross between a baby owl and a hedgehog, but Jessie liked it because it made her laugh. Owl always love you! 🙂

RECIPE:

Owl Cookies – our family favourite
Cream together: 1 cup butter or coconut oil (solid), 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup packed brown sugar.
Beat in 2 eggs, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1 tsp vanilla.
Stir in 2 1/2 cups of flour, and (optional) 1/4 cup ground flax seed, and 3 T. poppy or chia seeds (to make speckled owls).
Drop by spoonfuls (or cookie scoop) on greased cookie sheet, and flatten slightly with a fork (dipped in sugar to keep it from sticking).
Decorate with chocolate chip eyes and raw natural almond beaks.
Bake at 350 F until done – about 10-12 minutes.
